Nicole and I started the meeting talking about state assessments. Her class completed the first math session this morning. We discussed how it is impossible to fit all 6 modules of Eureka instruction in prior to assessing the students’ knowledge at the beginning of April.
She shared with me a student example of the setting/character analysis chart she is using (from Wit and Wisdom) that digs into each character and setting of the story. Students have to provide text evidence and use illustrations to create definitions of characters and places. For example – the character Humbug. Based upon reading the text in class and the connections students are sharing, she feels that students are beginning to have a grasp on figurative language and should meet the goal of 80%.
She is going to send me a video so we can discuss at our next meeting.
