Samantha and I talked about last week’s conferences and how hard it can be to tell parents tough news.
Samantha reflected on the modules and mentioned how much she is learning and it is just the tip of the science of reading. She was confused about the last class and how x takes up 1 sound box and is written x but qu takes up two boxes and the instructor wrote kw. I told her I would look at my LETRS book and see if I can find an explanation since I had never seen that before. She also mentioned the term tripthong, which I hadn’t heard before. Great conversation about always learning 🙂
Next we talked about a possible goal, she mentioned the connection to letters and spelling with a particular student that she’d been thinking about. She also mentioned how to create more comprehension activites with her fluency groups. I mentioned a lit circle as a well as a novel study – that way the students are having the conversations and discussions – they should be doing the questioning. I also mentioned read alouds because they can create alot of modeling – I wonder what the author ment by…
I am going to send Samantha an Edutopia article and we are going to meet next week to set up a goal and next steps.
