Starting Point:

Annette is a retired teacher and has not had a classroom of her own students in many years. Just after the first few weeks of class, Annette has expressed she wishes she would know now what she didn't when she was a classroom teacher. She admitted that she feels like she failed a few of her struggling students, but she was teaching as she was taught with guided reading.

Coach Log Note 1:

Meeting 2: 9/23 @ 2:00

Course update:

  • Started in the GR area, had training with a professor but learning from the course, she was doing it all wrong
  • AHAs: so many!
  • We discussed the assignments and so far everything is going well

Fluency – we discussed what happens when a student is a proficient reader but just slow. I told her that I used to have timed passages for my students to practice 5 days a week reading and listening. It really helped the readers to be paired with a strong reader and not all students needed to work on fluency.

What Makes a Good Reader? – throughout the course I hope that Annette will be able to answer this question

We created a goal and a starting point. Since her situation of being a classroom sub and not subbing now because of her husband’s medical needs, we had to get creative but still make it meaningful.
