Coach Log Note 1:

Whitney is a third grade teacher that took an interesting route to teaching. She is from texas and started in human development as a Social Worker. She got an alternative license for teaching and moved back to Kansas in 2019 and begin teaching her in the Covid year. She often leans into her counseling background to help with her teaching and behaviors in her classroom. She has 3 children of her own.

She has a class of 25 students with most at or above grade level other than 4 below with 2 in resource, 1 in evaluation and 1 in SIT. (1 is ELL) Her ELA block consists of MTSS time grouped across the grade level for 20 minutes, Whole group Wit and Wisdom for 1 hour then recess. After, is whole group Phonics lessons with spelling lessons then DRI for 15 min (this has not started at this time)

There is a lot of confusion around the spelling and new district directives around the powerpoints and how to teach. She stated that parents are concerned and don’t understand. This might be an area we need to explore a little more.

She have finished Modules 1 and 2 and the Case studies. I asked her to begin to think about a problem of practice for her goal. I will be sending her some example goals and we will draft a goal in our next meeting.
