Read the elements of Modules 1 and 2 including taking the self-assessment at the end of the module. Meghan will email me what element of the modules she would like to take an in-depth view of next coaching session.
Meghan and I used the session to get to know one another. We began with This or That, then transitioned to learning about Meghan’s background in teaching. We examined her professional beliefs and discussed what would be completed for the next coaching session on February 4. Meghan will complete a video narrating a tour of her classroom, video a short lesson of 2 English learners working on letter tracing for the letters in their names, and read the materials in Modules 1 and Module 2. Meghan will email me what topic within the modules she would like to focus on for next week once she has had a chance to get caught up reading and viewing the materials. We will think about more significant goals after she is caught up.
We discussed the current curriculum materials the district is using and what is challenging for the students and for instruction. The 95% program is very scripted, taught whole group, and may work better for non-Title I schools and students. Meghan is concerned that the Wit and Wisdom program may not align with the standards. Meghan is looking for “real world” resources for her students and assessments she can use with them.
There are currently 17 students in the classroom with a high number of English learners. About half of the students are performing at a low level and about half are performing at a high level. She feels there are no mid-level students in her classroom.
