Lindsay is an ELL teacher that works with mainly 1-5 grade students and will test students in Prek – k. She started her career teaching in the Turner School district for 4 years until the elementary school she worked him closed. At that time, she went back to school and got her Master degree in Counseling K-12 and did that in schools for many years. She is in the Olathe district as an ELL teacher and really enjoys her job and says she uses what she learned in counseling with students and parents.
Her school day consists of many push in groups for various subjects and some coteaching for math. For ELA, she does push in for Wit and Wisdom and pull out for MTSS groups teaching language and phonics. She has one 4th grade group that she specifically works on writing.
She is excited about the new learning in class and has finished Module one and is working through the case studies right now. I told her to please let me know if she has questions or concerns.
We talked about what she might use as her problem of practice to set her goal. I suggested it might be a MTSS group but it needs to be a consistent set of students for the length of the goal. She is going to think about it and collect data for next time. I will send her some example goals for ideas. I also suggested that she looked at the work of Elsa Cardenas Hagan for Literacy for English Learners so we can talk about how to add to Phonics routines for her students.
