Coach Log Note 1:

Melissa is a first grade teacher at Green Springs Elementary with a class of 19 students. She started teaching in Kentucky in a mixed grades classes with 1st and 2nd grade before moving to Kansas and has a Master of Science in Reading. She feels that she has a strong base of knowledge in literacy.

Her first grade reading block is Phonics for 30 minutes first thing in the morning followed by Wit and Wisdom for about 45 min. , broken up by a recess. Later there is 30 min for a MTSS block and then DRI with 15 to 20 min for small groups. MTSS and DRI groups are all her own students. In her DRI groups she uses district decodable (Charge in to Reading) and also some UFLI passages.

She has not yet started her Modules but will be this week. I asked her to email me if she has questions and bring questions or concerns to next meeting. She is to also begin to think about a problem of practice for her student goal that we will develop next time. I will send her some example goals to get ideas.
