Coach Log Note 1:

Lori is a 3rd grade teacher at Green Springs Elementary with 19 very diverse students currently in her classroom.  She has been teaching in Olathe for many years in 3rd and 4th grade and 26 years in education.  One year as a virtual teacher.  She reported that math is her comfort level and the word recognition part of ELA is a little difficult for her as it is not as black and white.  She is excited to learn more about the Science of reading and especially about phonics and the lower strands of the Reading rope.  She has not yet begun her course work.

The ELA block in her class is Wit and Wisdom from 10:55 to 12:00 (reading and writing).  Phonics block runs 12:30 – 1:00 . MTSS and DRI 2:30-3:30.  We talked about coaching and the structure of our work this semester.  I asked her to begin to think of a problem of practice that might work for a goal for this first part of the semester.  She is thinking spelling but will continue to ponder.  I will send her some example goals to look at for ideas of how we might set up a goal.  We set our next meeting date.

Next Steps

To Do: Work on Modules and create questions for coach. Think about problem of practice to use for goal setting. Review example goals to get ideas.

  • To Do: Summary of meeting: Lori will be thinking of a problem of practice that we might set a goal for the next meeting. As she begins her work on the modules, she will write down any questions for me or email me if she finds things she needs help with. I am sending her example goals to get ideas of what we might use for a goal. Our next meeting is set for September 22 at 1:30 pm.
