We completed some getting to know you activities and what influences Lora has had to become a teacher. She strongly believes that everyone can learn and wants to help her lowest readers in through this coaching process. We will begin with a student (P) who has just been released from phonics interventions but still struggles with reading skills. Lora will interview P to discuss his reading skills with him. She will video this interaction. She will also submit a tour of her classroom.
Lora recently returned from a trip and is catching up on the materials in Module 1 and 2. We will work on discussing materials in the modules when we have our next coaching session on February 12.
Lora has been teaching for 26 years and has taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades, all in the Olathe School District.
We also discussed reading fluency which is an issue for many of her students. She uses non-fiction texts to practice fluency skills within the classroom and has used repetitive reading strategies to help with this skill.
