Stage: Starting Point
Goal Information
Date: June 17, 2026Notes
Kim Stark and I met on Monday, June 15, for our first coaching session of her new summer course. At this meeting we discussed the content of the new course and Kim indicated that she was excited to learn more about the topics which are the focus for each module. She feels as though the topics relate well to struggles that her students have had in the classroom, especially with regard to vocabulary and comprehension.
Kim indicated that she had been thinking about what she would do for her problem of practice and had not yet landed on a topic, so we brainstormed some possibities. She would prefer to make a plan to implement one of the strategies she is learning in this course with her students in the fall. At this point, she is leaning toward vocabulary strategies because she feels as though the reading curriculum they use is weak in this area.
We talked through some possible steps toward making the plan:
- Â Seek approval from her University instructor for making an implementation plan for fall instead of working with a student this summer.
- Visit with her instructional coach to determine skills that are weak or lacking in the students she will have in the fall.
- Peruse her current curriculum units to determine those most amenable to including additional strategies in vocabulary (or selected content based on needs of students)
- Develop the plan for implementation of the new strategy.
We will meet again on June 29 to finalize a goal based on the information Kim has learned. Additional meeting dates will include:
June 29:Â 9:00 AM
July 7:Â 9:00 AM
July 14: 1:30 PM
July 20:Â 1:30 PM
