Notes
Brynna is starting her 9th year of teaching. She started her career teaching middle school in Jacksonville, Florida where she grew up. She then moved to Ft.Riley and taught one year. After moving to Topeka she worked in sales but missed teaching. She feels like she found her place at State Street Elementary and loves teaching 4th grade. Her two co-workers are also taking this course. One has been teaching the same amount of time and the other has taught for 26 years. She noted that each of them come away with something different after each class.
We discussed the district pacing and her frustrations with minutes on paper versus what can actually be done during a class period. She really likes the ELA resource she is currently using – Benchmark and was a model classroom for the last few years. She isn’t feeling as successful this year with 25 students and a change in administration.
We discussed best uses of the QPS for her students. She has to complete a QPS on each student per district guidance but the Interventionists complete the Fastbridge assessments on each of her students. When she asked for help on the QPS, she was told that wasn’t allowed by her Instructional Coach.
She would like to learn strategies she can use right now especially in large group settings.
We will meet every other Tuesday at 7:30 am. Our next scheduled meeting is 9/29.
