Notes
9/8 4:30-5:00
We made introductions. Topeka is a small town and her niece worked at AW with me.
Christy has been a teacher for many years and even though she doesn’t have to renew her license until 2030, she wants to allow herself a choice to continue.
Her current ELA resource is CKLA and for in class intervention she will use UFLI, which she has found success over the last 4 years.
Christy is at Elmont Elementary in the Seaman district. There is one other first grade teacher and they departmentalize ELA. The other teacher teaches the shared reading component on CKLA and Christy teaches Math to all students. They both teach writing and have small “intervention” groups.
She just started a new writing resource this year called Simplify Writing, so far it is going very well. It is taught with a modeling video and short writing that students follow along with the teacher. One example this week was learning to label. Then they turned the picture into a sentence with a noun and an action.
Next time we are going to look at the VECTOR model of coaching and discuss her first goal for the class. She is thinking since she already benchmarked her students, she will use that data for a small group goal.
Next meeting: Thursday 9/24 @ 4:30
