Coach Log Note 1:

This is Lindsey’s 21st year of teaching. Its her 3rd year at 3rd grade but she spent 15 years n Kindergarten and another year at 1st so she has experienced a wide range of development. She has been at her current school for 17 years.  She is teaching at a dual immersion school. She teachers the English portion so she does everything twice for two different groups.  Her 3rd grade team clicked really well last year. This year they have a new person who is just learning the ropes and another new team member who is collaborative in some areas but not in others. This has been an adjustment as they navigate new norms and dynamics. Right now it feels as if responsibilities are “put on” the veteran teachers while others don’t offer to help. They don’t put in the extra time that teaching often takes so this impacts the other members of the team.

Lindsey has a 24 year old daughter and a 20 year old son who is attending JCCC for the welding program. She lives in Lenexa and also has a dog.

Her day is pretty packed since she does the same thing twice. with ELA, Math intervention, and phonics then specials. She does small groups reading using wit and wisdom cursive and writing that is incorporated. Then lunch and finish reading. Then she starts it all over again switching groups.  She does like the material however feels it can be hard to fit it all in. She is learning to pick and choose with the curriculum. Laurie Winter has  provided her with support around this about a month ago. Together they discussed what the main things would be to focus on.  Lindsey is getting more proficient in going through the material ahead of time and making those determinations.

She is feeling a bit stumped by a couple of students in particular. They have a 504 with a dyslexia and ADHD diagnosis. They can read fluently but cannot get the spelling rules especially with regard to the vowels and vowel team. Comprehension is also impacted. This may be an area Lindsey decides that she want to focus for her goal. We will discuss this at our next session.

Next Steps

To Do: Next time we will discuss her student concerns and see if we can begin to draft a goal for our coaching work together.
