Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Kim is an At-Risk Preschool teacher at Rolling Ridge.

I shared that we had three purposes today:  to get to know one another, both personally and professionally, to discuss our work together, and to identify some successes and challenges she is seeing in her classroom in literacy instruction.

She told me that she and her husband of 11 years, Manny, have seven daughters between them.  Kim has Ali (33) with three kids in Texas, Kate in Olathe (an attorney), and Libby in Maryland with two girls.  Manny has Tori in Excelsior Spriungs, Katie, who works in Wy Co as a social worker, Paige, who lives in Lenexa close to them, and Aneisa (15) who goes to Olathe South.

Kim has been a teacher for 22 years.  She taught for two years in KCK at Emerson with Ramona Stowe, and has been in Olathe 20 years teaching K, 1,2, and PreK.

We discussed what our work will/could look like and a bit of what coaching is and what it isn’t.

For successes, she shared that her kids are making progress learning routines and structure and some of them can write their names.

There have been significant challenges this year, as she was informed at the end of May that she and her next-door colleague would be combining classes and piloting a new program for 3s and 4s for the district.  She and her colleague have very different ideas about what should be happening in the course of the day.  There have been no guidelines and no support and HR told her to “get through the year.”  She will be teaching K at John F. Kennedy in KCK next year.

We identified some possible areas for a goal: oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, and letter ID.

We will meet again on 2/13/26 at 10:00.
