Notes
solidified future dates for coaching sessions – 2/12 – 8am, 2/25 – 4:15, 3/25 – 4:15 (unless this date is too late).
Kelly is in her 1st year of teaching after subbing for 10 years. She has a P.E. certification. Her experience while subbing helped her discover her desire to be a classroom teacher. She loves teaching!
She is currently working on a program through K-State that allows her to take courses working on her certification while she is teaching.
When asked about what her students are working on currently, she shared that they are finishing up vowel teams and getting reading for vowel r patterns in 95% group. There are 30 minutes a day set aside for phonics. Then, they have 25 minutes of small group differentiated instruction for phonics small groups. There is also a DRI (Directive Reading Instruction) time for 15 minutes where students are reading text based on the lexile ranges determined on Fastbridge. Finally, her class spends one hour a day in the Wit & Wisdom Program for comprehension and writing. which is heavy with writing experiences. They covered informative writing earlier in the year and are now working on narrative writing. One of the things she pointed out was there are not copies for each child which affords them to do the stories as read-alouds.
I asked her if she had taken the knowledge test yet for the course and she was unfamiliar with this.
Next steps: I will send out Zoom invites for the dates listed above. I will also check with Suzy to see if the goal could include just one or two students. Kelly is going to begin thinking about her goal for this class. I also mentioned that she might want to align the application activities and the video she records to her goal.
