Notes
Spent time vising with Michelle about her background as an educator and teacher and getting to know her. We discussed her professional experience and background as well as her familiarity with structured literacy. We discussed that fact that she does indeed have an instructional coach in her buidling that meets with her team weekly to look at data. I learned about her literacy resource and the currently challenges that she is seeing with her kids. She had her 4 quadrants document with the students filled in and we began discussing how we might move forward with selecting a goal. A few specific notes:
- Does not get 1:1 time with her instructional coach
- Team meets with coach weekly to look at data
- Building has a strong focus on Kagan strategies
- Quadrants
- quad 1 – 7 kids
- quad 2 – 5 kids
- quad 3 – 4 kids (2 in sped and 1 needs to be)
- quad 4 – 7 kids (3 in sped 1 in EL)
Michelle feels that more than half her kids reading rate is low and may want to explore phonics and decoding with them. She is also curious about maybe exploring fluency, Greek/Latin roots with her Quad 2 kids.
Michelle has a big life right now and is somewhat overwhelmed but excited about taking these classes. She is going to be amazing to work with as she sees the importance of this work!
