Sarah is working conscientiously on Modules 7/8 at this time. She continues to indicate her expressed value of the course content and experience.
We discussed her draft goal to increase tier 2 vocabulary. Although she initially selected and pretested from a Grade 10 list, we reviewed other terms that more appropriately apply to her instruction. Therefore, she will retest students using the VKS and sequence the 10 terms she plans to introduce, teach, and reinforce over the remainder of the semester.
We also reviewed a detailed instructional sequence she could use to ensure explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction through multisensory approaches.
We spent time reviewing the course application assignments. We discussed each of the options and located directions, rubrics, and templates on the course site.
We discussed her intention to teach a short vowel phonics lesson. We reflected on the importance of teaching versus using program materials (Words Their Way handouts) to provide explicit instruction. Sarah will send me a draft of her lesson plan for feedback to meet one application requirement.
