Goals

By May 14, 2026, 75% of my reading intervention students will be able to read a paragraph of an informational text and identify the main idea and supporting details in order to fill out a graphic organizer after instruction in the "What, What is it About" strategy and "I do, You do, We do" strategy for writing.
Stage: Midpoint

Goal Information

Date: April 12, 2026

Attainment Scale:
Starting Point:

All students are unable to identify the topic, main idea, supporting details and fill out a graphic organizer of an informational text paragraph on their own. They are in the "I do" phase of instruction.

Midpoint:

Most of my students will be able to identify the topic, main idea and supporting details of an informational text paragraph on their own but are in the "We Do" phase of filling out a graphic organizer.

Target Goal:

Seventy-five percent of my intervention students will be able to identify the topic, main idea and supporting details of an informational text paragraph and use those ideas to fill out a graphic organizer with minimal support from the teacher.

Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

After reflecting on the video of Glenda’s instruction, she decided to modify her original goal. She realized that her goal was too ambitious for the time frame that she had to complete her instruction. As we talked about her video, I was able to point out many of the good instructional practices she was using. However, she realized that her original instructional plans for the lesson were not working and had to improvise and change the lesson while teaching. I explained that that is how we learn and now she realizes that some pieces of text are not appropriate for the group of students that are in front of her at the moment. It was a good learning experience and I think that Glenda has grown as a teacher throughout this course. We had a great discussion about the steps needed to get a group of students to be able to identify main idea and supporting details and the importance of this kind of instruction.

Next Steps

To Do: Collect final data and be ready to reflect on her goal, student progress, and instruction to meet the goal
