Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Amber shared that it has been busy!  They had the 4th Q simulation for middle school, and the school carnival was scheduled for the evening of our call.  Her daughter, Bri, will be graduating from Olathe West, and they are all excited about that.  They are planning a party and she is working on sch0larship applications.  Amber said that she had gotten cords to recognize their Cherokee/Delaware heritage, but she is not sure Bri will be allowed to wear them for the ceremony.

Her group has scheduled time to discuss the Application Task for Modules 7/8.

I stated that we had two purposes:  to talk about progress toward her student goal and progress toward her teacher goal.

She reported that many students have been sick and all of them are tired.  State testing is completed, but now they will be doing Fastbridge testing and CFA (ELA for the district) and QBA (Math for the district).  Jacob went up in his fluency score and 2/6 of them have reached the 150 point.  She is hopeful that, with further instruction and using the PM Form 5 (as opposed to more difficult content passages for her weekly progress monitoring), at least 4/6 of them will reach the goal of 150.  She described instruction as being done with a smaller group now and is tying in some narrative, too.  She said they had fun with some Reader’s Theater pieces and she is giving them some practice on being timed.  We discussed how, of the four components of Fluency on the rubric (Expression/Volume, Phrasing, Smoothness, and Pace), only Pace (and maybe Smoothness?) really matters in timed tests.  She will continue her work with this group.

She has chosen to do pieces of the Syntax Project introduced to them during a class session.  (She was so intrigued by the project and its potential usefulness that she changed from Vocabulary to Syntax after the class.). She is planning to work with her grade level partner to plan instruction (and will email details to me soon) to begin on April 30th.

We will meet again on 5/4/26 at 2:50 pm.
