During a personal check-in, Brianna shared that it, “feels more like summer,” now that her work with the Academy is over.
She just submitted the Application Task for Modules 9/10. I asked her to share with me the PDs she created, and she did!
Her ESL class is going pretty well, and she said that she sees lots of overlap. When this class is complete, she will be finished. She is taking the Praxis soon.
I said that our primary purpose was to talk about her progress toward her goal of determining importance and pulling out things from each module that she wants to utilize in her classroom in the fall.
She said that she feels she has struggled with teaching vocabulary, so she focused her attention there. She believes that Dialogic Reading will make her instruction more purposeful and sees ways to use it with individuals and groups. She wants to utilize it during their Walk-To time. She will be selecting vocabulary to model and teach. We also discussed instruction for figurative language. She wants to use graphic organizers. She also wants to use the “story game” they experienced in class where the students will each have a word and will add on/build the story using their words. She thinks that will be a good check for understanding of the meaning of the words. We also discussed morphology instruction and how deep she needed to go for second graders.
We will meet again on Tuesday, 7/14/26, at 3:00.
