Planning for explicit teaching of syntax. Developing word banks, phrase banks and sentence banks that go with each passage.
Target Goal:
Deeper understanding of syntax and how to explicitly teach students to self monitor for fluent reading and writing.
Notes
Lindsay shared that she really only was able to work with Lucas once this past week to try out the phrasing technique. She felt he grasped it and showed progress but its still early to tell. She also has some confusion about the what to do in a lesson beyond that so we talked through some research based program examples from the Barton System. We then talked about Whizzimo and how she might develop a similar routine based on the passages she has in her fluency kit. She would create a word bank, then a phrase and sentence bank to work with before having the student read the full passage. She really was eager to try this idea and see what she might be able to create tomorrow during some work time they have.
