Goals

By the end of April, Ashley will deepen vocabulary knowledge (especially those listed in the Deep Dive and Direct Assessment List) of her students in the Good Eating unit of Wit and Wisdom, by utilizing vocabulary strategies suggested in the unit (mainly the Frayer model), but striving to include other vocabulary activities to more effectively engage students throughout the 24 lessons with the end result being integration of these words into their vocabulary as well as doing well on the Unit Assessment (which will be given after the completion of this course).

  • Students acted out 'embedded' along with 'esophagus'.In addition, she taught similes with the word 'mucus'. She video taped her students interacting with a plastic bag with colored water and bread. The students explained how the gastric juice (colored water) were being absorbed into the bread, , etc.

Review Lesson 1's Deep Dive/ Direct Assessment vocabulary words (digest, system), along with the Unit's Essential Question, and determine if the Frayer model is the best activity to use for students for them to have a deep understanding of those words.


Midpoint:

Review Lesson 8-13's Deep Dive/ Direct Assessment vocabulary words (trudged, hobbled, hurried, sped, rushed, cooperate), and determine if there are other activities, other than the Frayer model, is the best activity to use for students for them to have a deep understanding of those words.


Target Goal:

Coach Log Note 1:

Ashley really thinks through how to integrate hands-on activities to make the words as understandable as possible. I looked through the CANVAS module to see what other vocabulary activities were listed in there. We discussed some options for future vocab lessons.
