Stage: Starting Point
Goal Information
Date: April 9, 2026Attainment Scale:
Starting Point:
Review Lesson 1's Deep Dive/ Direct Assessment vocabulary words (digest, system), along with the Unit's Essential Question, and determine if the Frayer model is the best activity to use for students in order for them to have a deep understanding of those words.
Midpoint:
Review Lesson 8-13's Deep Dive/ Direct Assessment vocabulary words (trudged, hobbled, hurried, sped, rushed, cooperate), and determine if there are other activities, other than the Frayer model, is the best activity to use for students for them to have a deep understanding of those words.
Target Goal:
By the end of April, Melanie will deepen vocabulary knowledge (especially those listed in the Deep Dive and Direct Assessment List) of her students in the Good Eating unit of Wit and Wisdom, by utilizing vocabulary strategies suggested in the unit (mainly the Frayer model), but striving to include other vocabulary activities to more effectively engage students throughout the 24 lessons with the end result being that students integrate these words into their vocabulary as well as performing well on the vocabulary section of the Unit Assessment (which will be given after this class is over).
Notes
Melanie was about to start her next and last Unit of the year for Wit and Wisdom. There are 5 books in this unit (mainly nonfiction), with some pretty sophisticated vocabulary. Melanie wanted to explore other ways, besides the Frayer model, for students to engage with the vocabulary words.
