Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

The session started with the coachee raving about the P.A. speaker at the last in-class session. She was excited to learn about the concept of orthographic mapping. We also discussed that it may take more exposures for students to orthographically map a word.

On that note, we looked at the data she took for her one-quarter goal. None of the students met the goal of reading -er, -ir, -ur patterns with 90% accuracy. We discussed the need for more exposure in possibly a different way that the 95% protocol since they didn’t get it the first time. One idea I will share with her is to use tactile activities as the read and encode the words.

For the upcoming r-controlled lessons, I shared with he about sound walls with vowel valley. We talked about drawing attention the position of the mouth when making the sounds and I plan to send her more information about vowel valley and the consonant chart.

We determined that the one-quarter goal needed to be moved to the midpoint goal and midpoint needed to be moved to the three-quarter goal. This will allow for her to beef up her instruction with evidence-based activites.
