Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Karen shared her concerns that she is unclear about the course requirements for several application assignments.  She sent me a draft of her Oral Reading Lesson prior to our meeting and asked for feedback. This lesson plan is directly related to the goal attainment process, too.   During the meeting we discussed the need to:

  • Match the identified strategy of dialogic reading with the actual lesson format (i.e., use CROWD strategy components and sequence);
  • Identify the difference between teacher modeling and advance organizer;
  • Understands and identify Tier 2 vs tier 3 vocabulary.

She did turn in the Quadrant assignment but is concerned that she needs more timely feedback on her work.  She is working on the video requirement at this time.

Karen asked that we meet again on Friday; we will continue with our plan from our past meeting as follows:

  • Finalize key vocabulary list using her content expertise to go beyond the TCI unit vocabulary.
  • Collect baseline data on four units of study.
  • Begin implementation of vocabulary building strategies through daily explicit, systematic and cumulative instruction

This week I sent her additional information to address literacy in social studies courses: EdWeek Spotlight: Teaching Social Studies to build Literacy and Critical Thinking.

Karen shared that her mom’s birthday is today, and she is out of the hospital.
