Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

This was Anna’s final session. We revisited Milan, and she shared that, unfortunately, his parents have not consented to additional support. Despite this, she remains hopeful that he has developed skills he can carry forward. She also noted that she will be able to pass along helpful information to his teacher next year.

Regarding Anna’s second goal—creating a morphology matrix for use next year—she discovered a wealth of resources through a link shared during the session. She is eager to explore these further and appreciates that she has found what she needs without having to reinvent the wheel. However, she noted a drawback: the materials are not directly connected to her current resource, meaning they would need to be taught in isolation rather than embedded within context. She recognizes that this could increase cognitive demands for students, so she plans to spend additional time aligning the activities with her existing curriculum.

On a positive note, Anna has learned that the district is either providing or developing a companion morphology resource that she will be able to access. This resource is expected to be more closely aligned with the curriculum she is currently using.

We concluded the session with a class debrief. Anna shared that the first half of the course helped fill in some gaps in her knowledge, while the second half felt especially applicable to her day-to-day instruction. She also expressed that she felt well supported through virtual coaching and appreciated having later meeting times as an option. Overall her experience was very positive and she feels better prepared for working with students at a variety of developmental levels.
