Results: Shahlo shared her presentation with Dr. Wood. The presentation was thorough and engaging.and revealed deep knowledge of the process of phoneme blending.
Notes
Shahlo and I met on April 15 for a check in to determine progress on the presenation that she is creating for use at future workshops for teachers after she returns to Turkmenistan. Shahlo had defended her dissertation the day before this meeting…such an accomplishment! She indicated that because of the defense she had not had a lot of time to work on her presentation, but she was able to share with me the progress she had made, which actually was significant. At this point she has added several slides of research that supports the teaching of phoneme blending as well as discussing instructional strategies.
We took the opportunity to review the slides and discussed ideas that could be added. Shahlo indicates that the teachers in Turkmenistan are not familiar with the whole idea of phoneme blending, so she will be basic in her explanation of the process. She would like this to be in a workshop format, so teachers will have some time to practice strategies presented.
We moved the completion date to May 12. Between now and then, Shahlo will send the Power Point to me and I will give feedback. We will meet on April 28 to discuss the feedback.
