Notes
Allyson Atchity and I met on April 8 to further discuss the progress she is making toward the goal of 90% of her students scoring 80% or higher on the question sets from Wit and Wisdom. We are in the Reflect and Recommit Phase of the Vector model.
At our last coaching meeting Allyson shared data and student work with me that showed the progress students had been making on the 2 part questions of Wit and Wisdom. On the first testing, 91% of Allyson’s students scored 80% or higher on the 2 part questions of Wit and Wisdom. This met the goal that she had set and gave support for the strategy that she had been using which was to have students take a text and develop two part questions using the academic vocabulary that is found in the Wit and Wisdom questions.
At this meeting, Allyson shared data that revealed that only 86% of the students had scored 80% or higher on the questions. She discussed 2 factors that possibly played a role in the decrease in data. First of all, there were only five questions instead of six which changes percentages. Also, one of the questions dealt with the idea of theme which had not been a target of instruction.
Allyson indicated that she viewd the KITE assessment and noticed that the first question was a 2 part question like those in Wit and Wisdom. She is eager to see the scores from that test, but probably won’t until late in the semester.
In thinking about her next goal, Allyson would like to possibly focus on vocabulary. At our next meeting we will determine the goal.
