• Identify student assessment data to best represent the strands within the Scarborough Reading Rope. Use student data to determine needs and also use it for progress monitoring.
• Organize and support data teams to analyze student needs across subgroups and determine strategies needed to be embedded in the course curriculum.
• Develop and utilize a teacher observation/feedback tool to support integration of quality instructional techniques associated with explicit, systematic and cumulative instruction.
Logistics
• Determine the grade level(s) of focus for year one implementation.
• Provide professional development to the staff – including para-educators.
• Develop a staffing schedule to support multiple professionals within the classroom for tier one instruction in small groups.
Midpoint:
Measure progress of student growth through PLC data teams and adjust instructional group as needed.
Assess teacher implementation and adjust professional development as needed.
Target Goal:
By June 2027, I will develop a specific process and implement that plan to strengthen tier one literacy instruction for all students in at least one grade level. Teacher implementation of evidence-based practices and increases in student literacy development by at least 10% will be measures used to assess impact.
Notes
Jim and I corresponded many times since our last meeting two days ago. He has completed several assignments, and we reviewed what remaining for submission. He did pass the post-test, and we celebrated that accomplishment. Jim also shared that, “there are some flaws in this system-primarily in the testing sections as we reviewed and clarified assignments scores and completion levels.”
I sent Jim a copy of CT paraprofessional guidelines to use in addressing his goal to support tier 1 instruction in the classroom. We discussed how paras could be assigned based on their competencies, professional development needs, supervision processes, and detailed job descriptions. We also talked about ensuring that the neediest students are taught by the certified staff or paras with extensive expertise who have the greatest expertise on applying structured literacy methods.
