We discussed Crystal’s challenges in kindergarten, focusing on phonics instruction and addressing students’ struggles with short vowel sounds. She explained they use UFLI and Animated Literacy to enhance phonemic awareness and reading skills. She noted that it was taking a lot of time to prepare materials for the UFLI lessons. I had her log into the UFLI tool box and showed her the slides, decodable readers, parent information sheets, sound walls and other items. She was extremely grateful. They were handed the manual with no training. Crystal also discussed the importance of consistent terminology across grade levels and she is working on this within her building. Crystal is using Fastbridge for progress monitoring the 3 students who are struggling. She does additional diagnostic assessments to pinpoint students’ needs.
Crystal is working on her goal and will complete Module 3 this weekend.
