Michelle shared that she is in her first year of teaching preschool at Wanamaker Elementary, having previously taught kindergarten and second grade.
She is using Heggerty and is in the first year of implementing Highscope. The district is using this first year as a slow rollout, Michelle is picking and choosing components at this time.
Michelle shared that she completed Module 1 and is preparing for Module 2.
We discussed teaching phonics and literacy skills to 3-year-olds, noting the challenges of balancing academic expectations with the developmental stage of young children. We discussed shared experiences using the Heggerty program for phonemic awareness and discussed its popularity among students.
