We discussed refining the rubric we created to assess 3 year old comprehension. We narrowed down the play-based criteria from 7 to 3 items and revised levels of engagement and response criteria. We focused on maintaining positive language and clear distinctions between levels.
Holly decided she would use the rubric as a baseline after spring break and to do it 3 more times until the end of the year. This will allow Holly opportunities to analyze data and make instructional changes if needed. It will also give students time to show progress and to assess student progress. This is a new rubric and Holly will make revisions as needed.
Holly shared challenges with managing 16 students due to limited support in their rural school district, mentioning an upcoming meeting with the superintendent to discuss improvements for next year, including a proposal to split the class into morning and afternoon sessions.
