Notes
Rebecca discussed her progress in her course work, where she has completed modules 1-8 but hasn’t yet done the application components. The district recently adopted the Benchmark resource for literacy. Rebecca has revised her schedule to spend more time with her newcomers. She is focusing on phonics instruction, including heart words and dictated sentences. She emphasized the importance of urgency with her students. She sends home practice activities for students to work on at home and has parent support with this practice. She is working on improving her progress monitoring with QPS and Fastbridge. I suggested YouTube videos for administering the QPS and Fastbridge. She is also leaning on the Reading Interventionist to help her. She wants to add progress monitoring for words read per minute. She is doing this already, and we discussed having students record their progress on a graph. I sent her a sample graph and links to decodables in UFLI that she can use for additional reading practice focused on their phonics lessons. She wants to focus her goal with 4th graders; perhaps “By the end of April, fourth grade ELL students will score 80% or above on the phonics portion of the Really Great Reading, as evidenced by the end of the unit spelling, heart word, and dictation sentences.
