Coach Log Note 1:

We discussed Holly’s ideas for a goal. She wants to focus on her 3 year old students  improving their listening comprehension and oral language skills. Holy has been using a picture-based comprehension assessment and letter identification activities. We also discussed focusing on phonological awareness and pairing letter and sound matching and recognition.

We explored assessment methods for oral language development for 3 year olds.

We discussed assessment methods for young children, focusing on listening comprehension through picture-based activities and repeated readings of stories then students retell the story using pictures from the stories. We discussed how this approach could help identify differences in children’s oral language skills and story comprehension abilities. They noted that some children might provide extensive narratives, while others might only offer minimal responses, making this a useful tool for evaluating developmental milestones.
