Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Courtney shared that Elle is graduating next weekend and her graduation party is scheduled for Saturday.  When asked how she (Courtney) was, she said, “Surviving!”

She said that she missed class because it was the evening for Academic Awards.  She said that alol her pretests were done, and she just had to make the Application Tasks for 7/8 and 11/12 “pretty.”

I shared that we had two purposes:  to talk about her student goal and her teacher goal.

Her student goal of learning 12 more Heart Words was reached!  …and surpassed!!!  Brianna ended with 17 more Heart Words and Hazel ended with 21 more sight words!

When asked to what she attributed this success, she said, “My two girls are rockstars!”  She said that they were so proud and celebrated.  I added to Courtney’s list of attributions until, together, we had identified:  the teacher’s “pre-work” studying the module and gathering all of the tools and resources, repetition of activities, developing a system, consistency every day, celebrations of progress, time to think through and being ready to explain (the girls), which all led to her girls being MOTIVATED!

When discussing her teacher goal, she told me about the words she had selected from the Immigration Unit in Wit and Wisdom:  kimono, traditional, ancestors, deportation.  She laminated the POSSUM graphic organizer so that each student had their own.  Their response to instruction was, “We like these.  We would like to keep them!” – as opposed to erasing them each time from the laminated sheet.  The teacher is planning to use print copies next year in response.  She reflected that graphic organizers were not new to them, but she was surprised and delighted at how engaged they were!

We will meet again on 5/19/26 at 10:00.
