Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Jessica that she has been well, but Raylynne is suffering with allergies.  She reported that there are only four more Mondays.  She shared that she is worried about behaviors in next year’s class, because it doesn’t seem like a lot has been happening to support and improve their behavior in first grade.  🙁

She said the course is going pretty well.  She has Modules 7 and 8 done and will meet for a discussion with her group on the Application task next week for Modules 9 and 10.

I stated that we had two purposes:  to discuss her student goal and her teacher goal.

She reported that Charlotte did not yet pass Skill 7, which was the midpoint.  She said she has reached out the school psych who also reports no progress on her progress monitoring, but says that she may not get to taking next steps with her this year.  Jessica has been continuing to instruct, utilizing UFLI passages and activities from fcrr.org.  Given her slow rate of progress, we are considering adjusting the goal to make it attainable.  Jessica will email me her score on r-controlled vowels and we will go from there.

For her teacher goal, she chose Comprehension, specifically Visualization.  The video she watched was helpful.  She has been explicitly teaching them what it is and how using all five senses supports visualizing (making a mind movie).  She has utilized mentor text.  When asked to reflect on her attempt, she said,  “it opened me up to feel better (and more confident) about teaching it.”  She is picturing sketching out the mind movie in chunks.

She shared that the Syntax Project slides were good and important!  She said that she asked about where to find grammar in Wit and Wisdom, and was told it could be found in the Deep Dives.  She said that the new learning had both validated and stretched her team.

We will meet again on 5/4/26 at 3:15.
