Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Katie shared that her golfer, Jack, was ill with a fever and that Peyton was busy with basketball and softball.  She said the field trip to the zoo was “terrible,” but that today was better.

When asked about how coursework was coming, she said that she was done with Modules 7 and 8 and she was ready to complete the Application Task for 9 and 10.  She has started Module 11.

I stated that we had two purposes today:  to discuss her progress toward her student goal and her teacher goal.

The teacher has been modeling and providing feedback.  She has been doing one-minute reads and going back and talking about their mistakes.  She said that when she has them read the same UFLI passage again, they get further.  They have done repeated readings and that has helped especially with their phrasing and expression.  She said their pace is just “slow” now, not “laborious.”  She said they are both still a 2 in smoothness and a 3 in phrasing.  She will continue this work and is planning on targeting/teaching smoothness next.

Katie has actually chosen a strategy from two different modules.  From Vocabulary, she has selected Word Webs.  She described trying one with her whole class using the word, “wicked.”  She said it was hard, but she supported them in identifying synonyms and then related words to those synonyms and, “They loved it!”  She has also begun instruction utilizing slides from the Syntax Project, which she is recommending to her team, as she sees multiple ways to make this work engaging and meaningful.  More next time…

We will meet again on 5/5/26 at 1:00.
