Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Brianna was speaking to me from her leafy backyard with her three dogs present.  🙂

She told me that the course sessions have ended, but we discussed that we are not finished meeting to discuss her work toward her goal.

We had discussed last time that she would need to adjust the goal to be attainable for Le’Ayanah, given her learning difficulties.  She had given it thought, but the email to me was still in her Drafts Folder.  She (and I) celebrated that Le’Ayana had at last passed Digraphs!  She is reading more and also met her goal (set by her mother) of reading 10 books in the designated time frame, and everyone celebrated reaching that goal with pizza that Le’Ayanah and her mother provided.  🙂

I inquired about the instruction that was happening for Le’Ayanah.  Brianna stated that she is in a “Walk to Intervention” Group that meets before lunch.  Brianna is also spending 5-10 minutes with her 1:1 at the end of the day (which the student enjoys).  She is using Jump Rope readers or Blossom books and pop-it.  She has utilized pictures and writing on the table (which the student loved!) for digraphs, and plans to do the same for blends.  She said that she had talked with the team and is arranging for Le’Ayanah and Felix to go to read to the kindergartners, which she believes will be motivating.  She said that she is working to help Le’Ayanah to take “ownership” of her learning.  We also discussed the difference between practice and instruction, and I urged her to make sure she was providing more than just practice.  I reminded her of I Do, We Do, You Do, and she is planning to explicitly certain identified blends one at a time.

She will send me updated thinking about her goal, and we will meet again on 5/18/26 at 5:00.
