Notes
During a personal check-in, Amber shared that it has been a long and very busy week and that the carnival is tonight! Her sons have been involved with baseball all week.
When asked how the course was coming, she said she needed to do some work to feel caught up.
I stated that we had two purposes:Â to discuss her student goal and her teacher goal.
Nathalie is “doing very well!” She is “caught up” enough to be in a group with other students – still below benchmark, but not as much. She is at the 3/4 point to the goal with 4/10 in nonsense words with blends and 3/10 in sentences with words with blends. Amber is utilizing the advanced short vowel lessons to keep them strong and add in blends that can be used with those vowels. The new group will start on Monday and they have eight days until final progress monitoring. She said that Nathalie is “clicking along” and is so proud of her successes.
Amber had first thought she might want to do some strategies from the Vocabulary Module (see previous log), but since being introduced to the 21 Day Writing Challenge, she has chosen Writing instead. She said that it spoke to her. :-). She is utilizing challenge format within their journal time and it also serves the purpose of “wrapping up” content from that day. For example, today they had learned about pollination, so the first sentence was one she wrote about pollination and they copied, paying attention to letter formation, spacing, and punctuation. The second sentence was a dictation sentence about pollination, which they had to “hold in their heads” without repetition, and the third sentence was one they composed themselves about pollination. She said that the kids like it and it is going well. We reflected about all the purposes being served! When asked about connections she is making, she said that she has already discussed with her grade level colleague starting this work at the beginning of the year next year. They were already doing journal writing, but this will make it more purposeful.
We will meet again on 5/5/26 at 8:15 am.
