Student is currently "stuck" at Level 4 (digraphs), having difficulty with "ng" and sometimes confusing "th" and "sh" and scoring 6/10 on nonsense words and 16/20 on words in sentences.
Midpoint:
score 80% on nonsense words on Level 5 (blends)
Target Goal:
By May, 2026, a student below level in phonics will pass Level 5 (blends) with 80% accuracy on nonsense words and within sentences, as measured by the QPI.
Notes
During a personal check-in, Brianna looked exhausted. Part of the time she was holding her head in her hands. She said Easter was OK, but not too exciting. When I asked how she was doing, she said, “It’s April…: She has a new student who has upset the equilibrium in her classroom.
She told me last call that she had completed the course, so I asked about her ESL Endorsement that she is getting. She said it’s, “OK.”
I shared that our primary purpose today was to talk about progress toward her goal. It is focused on a girl who has been in their GEI process since first grade. Brianna is frustrated because she said that in the latest meeting with Mom, no one told Mom the truth about just how far away from benchmark level the student really is. The Intervention teacher has been unable to pull her for instruction (in addition to the instruction the teacher is providing) because she has been involved with state testing. Brianna is not seeing much progress at all and is very discouraged. I apologized that I didn’t steer her away from selecting who is possibly the most difficult case in her classroom for her goal. She said that she doesn’t really have any “bubble kids.” Everyone is either way above or way below expected levels. She will email me within a few days about adjusting her goal to be more Attainable for this student.
