Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

It had been awhile since this coachee and I had met. She shared that she had completed through module 6 – fluency.

We revisited her goal to see if her students had met the goal. She said that all 3 students met the goal. I asked her how she changed instruction from what she had been doing previously. She said she used word chains, sound/spelling mapping and then also created a word sort. I asked her if there was anything she would want to change for future and she wondered if it would be better to use real words instead of nonsense words. This opened the door to a great conversation of why we use nonsense words and how it gives us a deeper glimpse into their ability to decode when we’re assessing. I also gave her the tip to share with students that nonsense words may not be a real word by itself, but sometimes it may be found in multi-syllabic words.

Moving forward, she discussed her excitement to work on fluency with some of her students.
