Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

During a personal check-in, Amber shared that they took a trip to Dallas over Spring Break and saw her stepdaughter and did touristy things.  :-).

She has one assignment for Course I to turn in.  I asked about her thinking about Course 1 since I know she has a Master’s in Reading.  She said it was “a good course” and she especially learned things in the Assessment Module.  She also spoke of the value of doing this work alongside colleagues and of having a goal that she was working on with me.

I shared that our main purpose today was to discuss her work and progress toward her goal.  She has continued to utilize the UFLI lessons and time with fidelity.  She has also pulled some activities from fcrr.org that we explored on our last call.  Nathalie is stillo mixing up some consonant.  She can say the sounds when she sees the letters, but when doing work in Tier 1 she sometimes acts as if this is beyond her.  Amber is convinced she is dyslexic and has her in the SIT process.  She has several sight words now and had none before!  They meet every day.  The teacher says she comprehends and remembers well when read to but, “It’s the blending!” that gives her trouble.  She can segment the word and say the correct sounds for each letter, but then when she tries to blend it back together she sometimes does it backward..  /d/ /o/ /g/ becomes “god.”  However, she CAN encode and asks for those tasks of writing the sentences dictated to her.  Short a is consistent.  Amber did some work on one vowel at a time and they are now reviewing all of them.  Consequently, we determined that the goal needed to be adjusted (with CVC words and blends mastered instead of also mastering digraphs).

We talked about what a teacher-oriented goal might look like for the content of the second course, and she is leaning toward comprehension.

We will meet again on 4/8/26 at 12:45 (time adjusted for other commitments).
