Notes
During a personal check-in, Lori shared that Spring Break was great and relaxing and her daughter, Kaylee, was home! Today was the first day back with students and she said she’s tired. 🙂
She completed everything for the first course and is happy with that accomplishment because “it was a lot of work.”
I shared that our main purpose today was to talk about the work she has done toward her goal and to document impact on her students.
She has focused first on Pacing and Expression – doing work with sight words and games from fcrr.org. For Delta, who sometimes is not even fluent just saying the words, she prepared a fun racing activity to help with that and she is seeing growth.
She was prepared with new data to share! Sophia went from 7 to 10 on the rubric and Delta went from 5 to 7 on the rubric – going a little past the Midpoint already! They both went up on Expression and Volume by 1 level, Sophia moved up a level on Phrasing, they both moved up a level on Smoothness, and Pace stayed the same. When asked to what she attributed this success she said: the activities were motivating, she has time during DRI to provide instruction, they love being in a group with their teacher, they are engaged and invested, and they are aware of their reading being “choppy” and want to read better.
She has plans for continued instruction with them.
We talked a bit about the content of the next course and what a teacher-focused goal might look and sound like. We will talk more about this at our next call on 4/7/26 at 4:15.
