Katie sent data ahead of our coaching session which was great to have so we could really dialogu about some great things. In our previous session, Katie indicated she had students who were really struggling with decoding. Before landing on anything, we took a look at her data to really look at the instructional needs of her students. There were 3 groups that emerged from the data. Decoding was indeed an issue but we wanted to narrow things down a bit to have a more specific goal. Additionally, the last time we met, Katie indicated that she had been trying a loft of things – maybe too many things. So we discussed what some of those things were and what had been effective. She felt that she had not been using a resource she has with fidelity and wondered if done with fidelity, it would give her good results. That is where we landed and drafted the following goal that we will flesh out next time we meet.
Students not at benchmark will accurately decode words with digraphs using the Build Up Spriral Up program with fidelity and increasing scores from 60% to 90%.
I sent Katie our draft of a goal along with the form we will use for tracking progress to her goal.
