Notes
During a personal check-in, Allen shared that he was, “OK,” and then we dove right in!
He is working on Module 5, and has lessons and observations scheduled for next week, while summer school is still in session. He plans to teach r-controlled vowels and CVCe and is utilizing the lesson planning template from the course.
I shared that our primary purpose today was to explore some possibilities for his goal, based on his plans for implementing new learning (and setting up new structures) for the coming school year.
He knows that scheduling is crucial and will be taking steps toward supporting 60-90 minute blocks for ELA. He knows that absenteeism played a role in his 2026 KAP scores. Even though, overall, scores were not bad, the report revealed that 38 students per grade level (3-5) displayed chronic absenteeism, which affected their own scores AND pulled down his school achievement rate. He has planned steps already to address this concern.
His “hope” and “goal” is to make sure there is direct, explicit instruction and to collect data to be used for analysis, diagnosis, and instructional planning. He wants to focus on content from Modules 4 (Phonological and Phonemic Awareness) and 5 (Phonics) in foundational grades. He thinks he can begin to address this by providing a framework and support for PLCs. He is going to refine his PLC template and clarify expectations for how often/when these PLCs will occur and what the outcome should be. We hope to finalize his goal during our next call on 6/24/26 at 1:00.
