Session Time: 04/02/2026 6:00 pm | Phase: Examine Influence | Session Length: 0:30

Goals

By May 15th, I will revise the PreK progress report, based on the Kansas Early Learning Standards, to simplify and capture the learnings essential to prepare preschoolers for success in kindergarten.
Stage: Starting Point

Goal Information

Date: April 2, 2026

Attainment Scale:
Starting Point:

The current progress report contains the following categories and number of items tested
Approaches to learning - 5
SEL - 11
Mathematical Knowledge - 8
Physical Health and Development - 5
Color recognition -
Shape recognition - 8
Number recognition to 20
Communication and Skill Development - 11
Letters in first name
Letters in last name
Uppercase Letter recognition
Lowercase Letter recognition

It is too much, parents aren't interested in all of these standards. What is essential?

Midpoint:

Make suggestions for revisions of at least two to three categories.

Target Goal:

Develop a clear understanding of what is developmentally appropriate at PreK based on the Kansas Early Learning Standards. When unsure about the meaning of "some" and other ambiguous words in the standards, learn how to clearly define them and refine the PreK progress report using this information.

Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Edna has been able to make some good progress on her course modules. She is now through module 5, but has not completed any of the application and problems of practice assignments.

She really wants to know what is developmentally appropriate for PreK and the Kansas Early Learning Standards seem too vague to her. We discussed tying her goal to those standards.

It seems like she is focused on those students who seem ready to read, and I am encouraging her to continually focus more on unconstrained skills like language specifically, vocabulary, comprehension, and speaking & listening.
