Coach Log Note 1:

E step –

Amy and I reconnected and caught up on events that transpired since we met last semester.   We plan to concur a virtual reading event that we planned last semester as a reward and motivator for her students who are gaining reading skills.  We also discussed her continued problem of practice around successful integration of trauma informed practices.  We reviewed Aman’s ongoing issues with behavior, transient home placement and other factors that have impeded his literacy growth.  We decided that we would continue to work on a goal for Aman related to academic vocabulary development.  We discussed various strategies that she could incorporate once she selects the vocabulary she plans to introduce and teach.  Amy is proceeding through the module coursework; she is concerned that much of the discussion and resources re not relevant to her highly sensitive instructional setting and her student reactions to teaching approaches such as Kagan.  We will continue to discuss these challenges throughout our remaining coaching conversations.

Next Steps

To Do: Amy will develop a draft student learning goal for Aman and send it to me with baseline data prior to our next meeting. After the meeting I sent her information on a seven step multimodality strategy to teach this type of vocabulary. I also sent her information on word lists that she can preview in conjunction with the Wit and Wisdom units of student used in her school.
