Anna finalized her goal this evening: The intervention student, Milan, will demonstrate 90% accuracy with predictable vowel teams (Skill 13) by the end of two intervention cycles (approximately six weeks), as measured by the PSI on the district’s 95% curriculum end-of-unit assessment.
To support Milan in reaching this goal, Anna will work one-on-one with him using an adapted version of the district curriculum and provide scaffolding tools to promote independent application of skills. She will conduct 15–20 minute lessons, five days per week, beginning with instruction on vowel patterns in single-syllable words and gradually progressing to multisyllabic words, phrases, and sentences or passages.
Anna will incorporate color-coded manipulative tiles, using one color for vowel teams and another for consonants. As instruction progresses, she will collaboratively build a toolkit with Milan that they can reference to strengthen his confidence and independence. They will also create a visual organizer for vowel teams that highlights where common patterns occur within words (beginning, middle, end, or multiple positions).
Anna will implement these strategies over the next couple of weeks. We will meet again on February 23 at 8:30 CST to review progress and determine next steps.
