Nicole was a little late to the meeting because of a student. We laughed about how it only happens when you have somewhere you have to be.
We discussed her goal and she reflected on how some students are really understanding figurative language and some are not. The students had to create a character snapshot and Nicole to clearly see the students that had mastered the skill of figurative language and those who did not. She will continue to work in small group with those that need additional teaching and practice. Right now a little more that half of her students are demonstrating mastery. She is going to send me the finished product of some of her students so I can see the completed assignment and how it tied into her goal.
We discussed a possible impact goal and she is going to dig into Wit and Wisdom to prepare for next year and digging into tier 2 words. Like most teachers, Nicole mentioned W&W introduces but doesn’t give much practice or repetition. Her second grade team member and Nicole discussed being intentional with the words they select and the connections students could make.
I am going to have her write up a goal and send it to me. She is going to start taking some anecdotal notes as she is in class with you or anything she does that pertains to her goal.
