Notes

Coach Log Note 1:

Sheryl has completed Module 2 but has questions about the pre/posttest percentages and expectations.  She passed the pretest, but she took the posttest and didn’t pass.  We both will check in (professor and coaching support) to clarify the expectations.

We discussed the strategies she will use to achieve her student goal.  She will start her official analysis on the upcoming unit of study rather than the current one.  She is using this unit for “practice.” Her focus will continue to be on pre-teaching, visual devices, and oral fluency strategies from Module 6.   We also spent time on professional development for her to learn how to use the Strategic Instruction Model Concept Mastery routine to teach and assessment of conceptual learning.  I gave her a PowerPoint, blank visual organizers, fidelity checklists for instruction and for device creation.  I also sent her a copy of the SIM manual for deeper analysis and clarification of the instructional process.

This week I sent her additional information to address literacy in social studies courses: EdWeek Spotlight: Teaching Social Studies to build Literacy and Critical Thinking.
